Dean G. Smith

Dean Smith is Dean of the School of Public Health and Professor of Health Policy and Systems Management at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. He is also Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan School of Public Health where he had previously served as Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Chair of the Department of Health Management & Policy. Professor Smith was the first Health Insurance Association of America faculty fellow working at Lincoln National. He later co-founded two HMOs and served as President and CEO of Good Health Michigan. These plans were acquired by Molina Healthcare where he served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Professor Smith’s currently funded research includes analyses of programs to reduce the economic burden of asthma, sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and the Merck Childhood Asthma Network. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan and his doctorate in economics from Texas A&M University.
